Project 03 :
Cafe & Library
SAIT's Architectural Technologies
Semester 3 Project
September 2019 - December 2019
The semester 3 project requirements were to design any type of 2-3 storey commercial building within part 3 of the Building Code. It had to include a ramp, concrete foundation, steel framing, and curtain wall. The 2 sites to choose from were Royal Vista (Industrial) or Sunalta (Urban).
Students were put into "support groups" for this semester, where students with similar ideas or locations would get together and discuss any issues they might have. Patricia's support group of 4 decided to go above and beyond the project requirements and integrated their projects together, which no other group attempted to do. There was no access to BIM collaboration at this time, so the group shared their Revit files in a Google Drive folder and linked them into their own files to get the entire building model, site plan, and parking garage plans.
Project Description
Building Type
This private development is a fully commercial building. Patricia's portion was a cafe on the main floor and a library on the upper floor. The other sections included office space, clinics, restaurants, gyms, and a bowling alley. This building has a shared underground parking garage with access to all 4 buildings.
Location
This private development is located at 1240 14th Street SW Calgary.
Software
The construction drawings were created using Revit, the renderings were done in Lumion by importing our Revit files, and the presentation boards were done in Photoshop.
